Choosing wall art for your home can be a daunting task. I’m going to try and make the process a little easier for you with some tips and examples!
Inspiration Wall Displays
I provide all of my clients a gallery of inspiration wall displays. These provide ideas on how images of the same or different size can be grouped together on your wall. I have also been known to come to a client’s home with a measuring tape to recommend the ideal layout or size for a certain space! If you ever have any questions or would like to see samples on your own wall, don’t hesitate to ask!
Print Sizes
I offer print sizes from 5×7 all the way up to 24×30! Did you know that 5×7′s and 8×10′s are considered desk prints? Yup! Wall prints are considered 11×14 and up! Now you can most certainly frame an 8×10 for your wall, but you may consider a grouping of 8×10 prints in frames for a larger impact.
An 8×10 may seem large to you, but check out the image below:
What size do you think it is? an 8×10? an 11×14? 16×20? If you guessed 16×20, you are correct! Gold star! For comparison, here is an 8×10 (unframed) in the same spot. Big difference, huh?!
Framing your Prints
I recommend framing on all purchased prints with the exception of gallery wrap canvases. Framing protects your prints from dust, UV rays and fingerprints. I do not offer frames because (1) I have no room for that kind of inventory
and (2) everyone’s personal style is different. You’ll want to choose a frame that matches your taste and decor. Locally, Michaels, AC Moore and Joanns offer quality frames and even offer custom framing if you are so inclined!
How do I choose a frame?
Well, a good rule of thumb is to purchase a frame one size larger than your print to allow for the mat. So, if you purchase an 8×10 print, purchase an 11×14 frame and a 11×14 mat with an 8×10 opening. A mat really showcases your print and prevents the image from touching the glass of the frame.
What if I don’t want to frame my prints?
A wonderful alternative to traditional prints is the gallery wrap canvas. These are truly works of art. No framing is required and they arrive ready to hang with sawtooth hangers. They are 1.5″ deep with a canvas texture and the image wraps completely around. They have a matte laminate coating that protects from UV rays, scuffing and scratching. That 16×20 above? Canvas! Canvases are available in 11×14, 16×20 and 20×30.
I hope this post was helpful to you in choosing print sizes. I also encourage you to seek your own inspiration through furnishing catalogs, online, etc. If you see something you like, bookmark it and show it to me! I’m always willing to work with you to create custom and unique wall art for you and your family!

I get quite a few hits on my blog and many email inquiries regarding the sunflower photos on my blog that I figured I would do a post specifically about it!
Last September I did a photo session at the Sunflower fields in White Hall, MD. The fields were gorgeous and the photos were amazing! The header for my blog was taken there as well! I also shared photos here. There are several fields along 165 as well! Keep your eyes open, the fields should be in full bloom in September!
Happy Summer! Be sure to enter the photo contest by July 22!
